World Food Forum (WFF)
2022 will
comprise the WFF Global Youth Forum, the FAO Science and Innovation Forum and the
FAO Hand-in-Hand Investment Forum.
The WFF will begin with a Grand Opening Ceremony, featuring global leaders, including the Presidents of Poland, Peru, São Tomé and Príncipe, Honduras, Panama and the Republic of Guyana, and the Prime Minister of Bangladesh, along with a message from His Holiness
Pope Francis.
The WFF
Global Youth Forum will focus on the theme “Healthy Diets. Healthy Planet.” The aim is to raise awareness among
young people and spark action on the connection between climate change and access to safe and nutritious food and healthy diets.
Key events include the Youth Assembly, innovation awards (finals of the Transformative Research Challenge and Startup Innovation Awards), educational activities (YUNGA Labs, Teachers’ Labs and School Assembly), capacity development workshops, exhibitions, side
events and cultural activities, including events with renowned chefs Kotaro Noda and Alfredo Oropeza, Grammy Award-winning musicians Ricky Kej and Lonnie Park, famed Italian street artist Cibo and many more.
It will also include the introduction of the newly established Young Scientists Group, made up of 20 extraordinary scientists under the age of 35, along with the global Focal Points Group of the Youth Assembly that provides strategic direction and supports
the drafting process of youth positions and policies. Youth participants are expected from all members of FAO and public and private partners of the WFF, including Indigenous Youth and representatives of other vulnerable communities.
The Science
and Innovation Forum will
highlight the crucial role of science, technology and innovation in transforming our agrifood systems and explore scientific advances and the opportunities and risks associated with them.
Speakers and panelists will include Former President of the Republic of Mauritius Ameenah Gurib-Fakim; the Permanent Representative of
Yemen to the United Nations Rome based Agencies, Asmahan Abdulhameed Al- Toqi; Agricultural and Food Economist Bernard Lehmann; the Chairman of the Steering Committee of the High-Level Panel of Experts on Food Security and Nutrition, Chris Barrett; the Permanent
Representative of the U.S. Mission to the UN Agencies in Rome, Cindy McCain; Chief Editor of Nature, Magdalena Skipper, and many others.
The Hand-in-Hand
Investment Forum will provide a platform for national authorities, global and national public and private entities,
along with multilateral development banks and donors, to discuss opportunities to finance the Hand-in-Hand Initiative.
Twenty countries will present impact investment opportunities and high-level representatives will be available for bilateral meetings
on 19 October. Participating countries include: Bangladesh, Bhutan, Burkina Faso, Congo, Ecuador, El Salvador, Ethiopia, Guatemala, Haiti, Honduras, Lao PDR, Mali, Nepal, Nicaragua, Niger, Peru, Sao Tome and Principe, Solomon Islands, Yemen and Zimbabwe. Please
